A.D. Guy Mural project

This project was a collaboration between the Southern Nevada Housing Authority, University of Nevada Reno, as well as the city of Las Vegas. The design intent of the mural was to bring knowledge of A.D. Guy III and his many contributions to Nevada being a judge in the eighth district, serving the Armed Forces and a lifetime fostering healthy environments for educating the youth.

Faced with the unique architecture of the building we decided to break the mural in two separate pieces with the idea of invoking a gallery like experience with individual viewing areas for each piece to stand on their own. Each piece is built on the foundation of ad guys memorable quote “I can I will.

This mural is located directly next to public housing neighborhood and the residents would often be out, enjoying time with their friends and family while watching us paint. The children would be curious and watching us paint and Malachi offered to paint their hands and let them plece their handprints on the wall.

Every wall is a new experience with us, we had to overcome the task of navigating deep grooves between each of the bricks, making for a difficult time, painting, straight lines, and even just coloring in flat areas. All things we will consider if ever embarking on a similar texture wall.

An unveiling ceremony for the mural is still in the works, tentatively in early December.
